2026 Connecticut Siding Replacement Pricing

Planning ranges from Connecticut pricing guides, not sales copy. Your written quote — measured on your home — is what counts.

Cost at a glance

MaterialInstalled per sq ft of wallTypical whole-house job
Vinyl$3.92–$5.65$12,000–$22,000
Fiber cement$5.43–$6.48$20,000–$40,000
Engineered woodComparable to fiber cement$18,000–$35,000
Wood clapboard$6.14–$7.24Varies widely by species and finish

Per-square-foot figures are per square foot of wall, not floor area — a two-story colonial has far more wall than a ranch of the same footprint. Connecticut pricing guides put a typical full replacement across materials at roughly $16,500–$41,250. Premium fiber cement lines with extensive trim, dormers, and gables can run above that range; small single-story homes can land below it.

What moves a quote

  • Stories and wall area. Two stories, gables, and dormers add wall area and staging time. This is the single biggest driver after material.
  • Tear-off and disposal. Removing multiple old layers costs more than one. Some older Hartford homes hide two or three generations of siding.
  • Sheathing repair. Rotted sheathing found at tear-off is the classic mid-job surprise. Get the pricing method in writing before work starts.
  • Trim and detail. Window and door trim, corner boards, fascia, and soffit work can add thousands — and are also where cheap jobs cut corners.
  • Insulation while walls are open. Adding rigid foam or house-wrap upgrades during replacement is far cheaper than doing it later, and it pays back on heating bills.
  • Access. Steep lots, tight side yards, and homes close to neighbors slow crews down and add staging cost.

Value, honestly stated

National cost-vs-value surveys consistently rank fiber-cement replacement among the highest-recouping exterior projects, recovering roughly nine-tenths of its cost at resale in strong years. Vinyl recoups less but costs far less up front. Treat resale value as a bonus, not the reason to replace: the real return is a dry, tight wall system and two decades without repainting or patching.

Cold-weather installation

Siding goes on in Connecticut winters, but the method changes with the temperature. Vinyl becomes brittle in deep cold and needs careful cutting and handling; nailing too tight in cold weather causes buckling when panels expand in summer heat. Fiber cement and engineered wood tolerate cold better but still need proper fastening and sealant selection. Ask any winter contractor two questions: what temperature floor do they work to, and which sealants do they use below freezing? Vague answers are a reason to keep shopping.

How to compare quotes

  • Is tear-off, disposal, house wrap, flashing, and trim all itemized — or bundled into one number you can't check?
  • How is sheathing repair priced if rot is found?
  • What is the workmanship warranty, separate from the manufacturer's material warranty?
  • Does the quote name the exact product and profile, or just “vinyl siding”?
  • Who pulls any required permit, and who handles historic-district review if it applies?

The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest job. A bid that skips house wrap, reuses old flashing, or prices no sheathing repair will look good on paper and cost you a wall in five years. Compare scope first, price second.
